چکیده

In the following paper, a new method for fast and accurate volume intensity and color integration is elaborated, which employs wavelet decompositions and texture mapping. At this point, it comprises and unifies the advantages of recently introduced Fourier domain volume rendering techniques and wavelet based volume rendering. Specifically, the method computes analytic solutions of the ray intensity integral through a single wavelet by slicing its Fourier transform and by backprojecting it into the spatial domain. The resulting slices can be considered as RGB textures where R, G, and B account for the decomposed volume color function. Due to the similarity of the basis functions, the computation of the texture map has to be figured out only once for each 3D mother wavelet. Hence, the final volume rendering procedure turns out to be a superposition of self–similar, transparent and colored textures, which is supported by modern hardware accumulation buffers. Linear shading and attenuation can be introduced by modifications of the wavelet’s Fourier transform. ___________________________________________________________________________

Efficiently Rendering Large Volume Data Using Texture Mapping Hardware

Volume rendering with texture mapping hardware is a fast volume rendering method available on high-end workstations. However, limited texture memory often prevents the method from being used to render large volume data efficiently. In this paper, we propose a new approach to fast rendering of large volume data with texture mapping hardware. Based on a new volume-loading pipeline, the volume dat...

Real-time Rendering with Wavelet-Compressed Multi-Dimensional Datasets on the GPU

We present a method for using large, high dimension and high dynamic range datasets on modern graphics hardware. Datasets are preprocessed with a discrete wavelet transform, insignificant coefficients are removed, and the resulting compressed data is stored in standard 2D texture memory. A set of drop-in shader functions allows any shader program to sample the wavelet-encoded textures without a...

Frequency domain volume rendering by the wavelet X-ray transform

We describe a wavelet based X-ray rendering method in the frequency domain with a smaller time complexity than wavelet splatting. Standard Fourier volume rendering is summarized and interpolation and accuracy issues are briefly discussed. We review the implementation of the fast wavelet transform in the frequency domain. The wavelet X-ray transform is derived, and the corresponding Fourier-wave...
